List of stores with leases up in the air
Let me first say that this is NOT a list of closing stores!! It is a list of stores who have not signed new leases since the filing.

Bookmark flash... there are 51 stores whose leases have not been successfully renegotiated as of yet. Not all will close.

"Importantly, while the motion references 51 stores, we expect a far smaller number to actually close"

Some of these are definately closing (about a third), some are ready to sign a new lease, and still others are still in talks for better lease terms. So even if its not announced that you're closing, it could still go that way sooner rather than later.

I DON'T SUPPOSE THEY PROVIDED A LIST ?
I do so love the fact that our fearless leaders do such a GREAT job of keeping us informed and aware...

What's that old joke about mushrooms ?..."They keep us in the dark and they keep feeding us BS"

They did. It includes 22 superstores, 12 Waldenbooks, 7 Borders Express, and 10 airport stores.

the list is out but i'm not posting it here. 1)I'm not leaking SPECIFIC info before they release it. 2) The list doesn't tell you who is closing and who isn't. There are three kinds of stores on that list. Those who ARE closing, those who have negotiated new leases and are ready to sign and those who are still waiting for more favorable terms.

Re: check bookmark
Honestly..what do you think the chances are of the stores not listed as closing..just as "re-negotiating" will be staying open? Any ideas?

Will say it again, this company doesn't give a shit about your or me. Just playing their games, hoping that at least they come out of this thing with a bonus. Hope they all rot in hell.

Making money? They don't care. Just a way to cover their inept ways in the past. What a bunch of losers.

Borders Provides Update on Store Lease Renegotiations
As you are aware, Borders is continuing to negotiate with landlords for more favorable lease terms as part of our Chapter 11 reorganization process. A majority of landlords have been accommodating and willing to work with us, but we have not yet been able to reach agreements for every store.

In compliance with the terms of our DIP financing agreement, Borders will soon file a document with the bankruptcy court that includes a list of 51 stores with leases that have not yet been successfully renegotiated. While we would like to continue to operate most of these stores, we are required by the DIP financing agreement to file a motion at this time setting out a store closing process.

Importantly, while the motion references 51 stores, we expect a far smaller number to actually close. We are in discussions with our DIP lenders to seek relief from the requirement, and we are actively working with our landlords to reach agreements. In the meantime, all of these stores are open and serving customers as usual.

For those associates at the 51 stores, I understand the uncertainty can be unsettling and appreciate your continued hard work and focus during this time. Our Real Estate team is working around the clock to reach agreements and get them in writing. As soon as deals are signed and stores move off the potential closing list, DMs will be notified and will immediately share that information with the store’s GM or Manager – Specialty.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of our associates for their contributions as we continue to move through the reorganization process.  I greatly appreciate all of your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm for Borders, particularly during the past few months.

Columbus Circle?
I find that hard to believe -- in the Time Warner bldg? It took Cloverfield to close that shit down before! j/k

Also: store 180 in B'ham, MI? Since this list is speculative, I'll wait and see. But closing some of these listed stores is suicidal. (But then, this is the company that lost MI Ave in Chicago.)

Re: Columbus Circle?
They're not saying that they're closing EVERY store on the list. These are just some? all? most? of the stores who have yet to sign a new lease.

NOT about $$
Former GM whose awesome store closed in a hellish liquidation process: we were making $$. Our numbers were good across the board. They closed us.

Making money has nothing to do with staying open at all.

Whatever stores do stay open when this all plays out: I wish you all luck and just be grateful to be employed. The hardest thing to deal with is that Mike Edward's/Jim Frering's Borders does not even remotely resemble the company so many of us once loved. That company died with Ron Marshall.

Re: NOT about $$
The stores that have stayed open have had over 10% comparable store declines for every month this year. Would your store still have made money with this decline?

So no stores in Boston at all. What's the closest north of the city? I know Hanover is the closest south.

Slightly surprised to see no Chicago-area stores on the list this time, considering how many closed in the first round, and the unusual decision to close Wilmette in the 2nd round.

Haha, I'm actually slightly surprised to learn Dubuque has a Borders, and not(say) a Waldenbooks. :) (though at least they do, considering how hard it is to find bookstores in small cities) Sad to see that store is on the 'up in the air' store lease list. Is it safe to assume the 3rd round of closures will include some non-BSS/BSR stores(i.e. Waldenbooks, Borders Airport, Express)? Or will it still be strictly just BSS/BSR stores?
(Anonymous) on June 9th, 2011 12:00 pm (UTC)
