The Final Kick In The Balls: Edwards, Henry, Frering, Thompson To Get Bonus
According to a report on  Ann Arbor.com  Borders has filed with the bankruptcy court a motion seeking court approval to pay Mike Edwards and his top three cronies $125,000 each bonus.

The final insult.   Such a disugsting company.  Such disgusting low-life people.  They have no shame.

We deserve our bonuses because we are the Atlases that hold up your world.

Sincerely,
Mike Edwards
(Borders CEO and avid Ayn Rand reader)

P.S. Greed is good.

Atlas held us up enough on its own.

you have no insight.
Though the last comment was bitingly sarcastic, it's ironically not too far away from the truth. I am a friend of both Jim Frering and Roz Thompson, and I have to tell you...you couldn't walk an inch in their shoes. We Ann Arbor people had it even worse than you in the field, seeing as no CEO since Romuoldo has even halfway listened to us...which is why I feel our bonuses are justified. Stop your incessant whining. Take your petty stresses and multiply them by a thousand, and that's what each one of us at corporate has had to deal with for the last three months. There's something to be said about the bad faith of employees that's somewhat responsible for this company's downfall.

Re: you have no insight.
And you live with blinders on.

To those who do not work in or did not work in AA over the past three months. This wretch does not speak for the vast majority of those in AA. Thompson and Frering are Edwards cronies plain and simple. Thompson was brought in to hold Edwards' hand as evidenced in many a meeting in 142. God knows why Frering was brought in, Edwards himself yanked this idiot out of the field. Borders was only a way station for these and others. Edwards admitted as much at one point.

They all knew what they were getting into when they took their jobs. Unless they had a contract that was not voided by the BK. They should get nothing above what the rest of the AA staff was given which was one week of pay for each year of service up to 12 weeks. But those in AA know that Roz can't live on that since she lives paycheck to paycheck as she stated in the Edwards "breakdown" meeting.

People in AA did not have it worse than those in the field. This idiot's view that AA is better than the field is typical of what hurt Borders.

Ya know what, I have faith that they won't get the severance pay. The judge overseeing this whole fiasco has known whats up this crap for a long time now, but his hands were tied so many times. Most of his decisions were ones that he admitted he was not comfortable making, but was doing so for the benefit of the 10,000+ employees in hopes that something magical would happen and the company would be saved. He knew that the guys the top were shady and not acting in good faith. He knew that they were treading water and grabbing what they could on the way out. Hopefully he will be able to finally act without restraints and deny them their severance. It's like the senators know they are retiring who suddenly start voting with their conscious rather than being guided by special interests. Nothing is holding him back now, and I wouldn't be surprised if he added his own two cents about this how this whole sordid affair played out when delivering his judgment. I have faith that this judge won't let this travesty happen as the last chapter of the Borders story.

But then again, hey what the fuck do I know.
(Anonymous) on September 11th, 2011 06:35 am (UTC)
wrong.
Oh I can assure you, we're getting our severances. Severance is a contract made with Borders and must be legally honored...it will be paid by the remaining assets. It is a separate issue from the bankruptcy. We earned that money - it's our livelihood - and no judge is above the law. We were in a higher pay grade than you because we had more pressing responsibilities than you. There is next to a 0% chance that we won't get a favorable ruling. Do you even read the news, or know how the legal system works??

severance will not be paid
For stores that were closed due to lease or landlord issues (example: SC stores that closed in July) did get severance. For those of us who were close now will NOT get severance.

This has been the case all along. severance will not be paid.

They better not get this bonus!!
This goes to show you people defending Mike that he was not all about helping this company. He'll he never even cared for us hourly fucks!!He was only out for himself and AA. If he gets this bonus I'm going to be Pissed Off Mad just like all of you in here. Where was our bonus, severence, how about raises for the past 3 - 4 years.

there's no way M.E. and roz and henry and frering won't get their $125k severances, but at least they're not getting a bonus.

Shout Out to Store 44
Farmingdale, NY is a great store with great people. I was there briefly and enjoyed most of the work (though the people who destroyed/stole merchandise were a drag--and I can't stand those people with 50% off coupons--it attracted a not-so-pleasant crowd). I wish those guys and everyone else who will be moving on great success. Best of luck and thank you.

Executive Pay
Its clear from reading the entries in this thread that there was an immense amount of leadership within the executives of this company. They way that they passionately speak to the store employees, and with such profanity and slanderous. That is the kind of passion that is needed to keep a company up and running. It is clear to see how lazy these eleven thousand, low wage, neanderthals were when it came to taking there own jobs into their hands and running them into extinction. I mean they were barely apply to liquidate the companies second biggest assets(second to the executives of course) with a smile. If you think of them like people, with families of their own, bills, mortgages, expanding families, pet owners, teachers(I worked with a few), than of course you will feel bad about their situation. But not bad enough to turn down a one hundred twenty five thousand dollar severance. So the moral to being a good leader. Hold your head high, be proud of your work and the way that you conduct yourself in such a professional manner while still having the ability to childishly reprimand your subordinates for questioning your decisions. Just make sure you have a company in shambles behind and a son/daughter in front of you so that when you both look back there will be someone there to continue the legacy that really, none of us even deserve to be in the presence of.

PS: This leader is clearly a Republican. I urge everyone to vote. Obama 2012

Re: Executive Pay
People who are consciously "expanding" their "families" in these times are stupid. I don't feel pity for those who are on unemployment and about to crap out a kid or want to have one with no source of income set up. Sorry, but common sense dominates here.

Also, reading such generalities about politics in this post nauseates me. Yeah I want Obama for another 4 years, with 4 more years of failed stimulus packages, 4 more years of bombing kids in Iraq, 4 more years of GM & Monsanto controlling our food supply and way of life. Right. Fuck off.

I'm just disgusted at how my GM and other managers acted when the store began liquidation. I've never seen a 40 year old person act like such a child. Oh and for the person blabbering about how we depended on atlas and werent real booksellers..I'm it's borders not your local town bookstore. Were not librarians we work in retail. Get over yourself. Borders was rotten to the core. I especially loved how my GM never told us anything. Oh that 10% premium? I eventually notices a piece of paper talents the registry er telling me what to do in poor form. so yeah fuck the lousy GM that ran our store. You know when you have a GM threatening your job on account of br+ then the higher ups are probably worse. God riddance. May greed kill those crooked bastards, from every position. And I'm not voting for Obama. He sucks like every other politician.

All hail to the survivors of the insanity of Mary Dillon, wherever you are out there! I'm a keyholder from her New York store and I just finished working for that bitch FOREVER!!! I hope she doesn't wake up tomorrow morning, or rather, I hope she sleep-walks and falls down a flight of stairs tonight and no one hears her squawking endless screams.

Re: Talk about disgusting people...
LOL. I ran from the INSANE abuse Borders provided to my store. I HATED upper management and how they grew to be nothing more then bullies. I see I am not alone in this nor would I care if I was. I hope the one person who made life unbearable there get's an airborne disease and his guts come out of his ass.

Also, give it time and soon you will not feel so much anger.

Good luck to all of you in your job hunting. I suggest staying away from Barnes and Nobles. They are literally following the death dance Borders died from. I'll miss reading the postings from here.

Sorry, you must have me confused with someone else. There were lots of people within the company. For all I know you could be someone else's GM. To single me out and say you know who I am from a comment I made is a pretty big assumption among the 11,000 + employees that lost their jobs. I was a good worker til the end. I was never a slacker. I just know bad management when I see it. And I can't say YOU were the bad GM because I don't even know who the hell you are. As for me, I was not a slacker. I don't know of whoever you're speaking of but it isn't me. Please don't assume.

Atlas as a crutch? Why not, it's not like we received any proper training at my store on where things were to begin with. As I went along I was able to find books for people when it was a bestseller or one that I had read. And when we didn't have Atlas during liquidation if we had the author's name and genre it was easy to find. I always went to the section to find a book for someone. Always. And the times that I didn't were when things were so out of order there was no way to find anything. So go ahead and moan, everyone else that has said something about us not being "real booksellers". You want a "real" bookseller, go to a local bookstore. At least with Borders gone it'll be another crooked retail company out of the way.
(Anonymous) on September 15th, 2011 08:28 pm (UTC)
No, there's no confusion
I know exactly how you write, your diction, grammar, and word choices, and that's maybe the greatest tip-off i got. Secondly, you lied your ass off in the store about everything, and you're lying about everything now, so I know it's you. You can't hide behind this 'good worker bee' routine.
