SO when are the stores locking the doors to customers? Whats the timeline?

Ok well it seems its close to the end with all the 90% off signs and the "fake" 4 days left weekend over. So whats the timeline?

1. When will the doors lock to customers?

2. When will everyone except keyholders get the short end of the stick on hours?

3. Can non key holders expect to still be on the schedule at all next week?

Will some brave GM step up with answers?

All of our workers are on the schedule for at least one of our three last days next week.

What is the last day open to the public?

Many of the store closing dates are listed on this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Borders?sk=app_205521576149308

As I understand it, all stores will be shut down by September 18.

Store #s?
Does anyone have access to a complete (or whatever you've got) list of store numbers along with the locations?

Also, does anyone remember the store number of the Borders that was in the World Trade Center? With so many of us closing on the 10th anniversary of the literal crushing of one of our stores, it'd be nice to remember it. ;)

Re: Store #s?
Tell that to the classy people who picked the date. I refuse to ignore the obvious.

Store number lists:

http://commercialvx.marketfronts.com/MarketFronts/images/BiddingProcedures-FinalVersion.pdf - pages 18 through 28 (sorted by store number, in two separate lists, one for large-format and the other for small-format stores)

http://commercialvx.marketfronts.com/MarketFronts/images/SpecialtyandAirportbrochure7.20.11.pdf (small format stores - sorted by state then by city)

http://commercialvx.marketfronts.com/MarketFronts/images/brochure7.19_1.pdf (large format stores - sorted by state then by city)

No one is keeping it secret, we just plain don't know. It's determined by units left/avg units sold per day. If you haven't heard yet, expect the 17th because your gm should get a 7 day notice (though ours was a 6 day). Hope that helps- our date has changed 3 times. Frustrating as all get out but almost over.

Keep in mind your keyholders are getting the short end, too.

Tons of people will work on the last day of sales but only a few on the vacate date (one day after close)

Re: And Keyholder muppets
Oh shut up about dumb keyholders. They are nothing more a vacant expressionless individual holding a key.

Re: And Keyholder muppets
...who have infinitely more responsibilities and ambitions than you, you bitter little peon.

Re: And Keyholder muppets
LOL right. Keyholders were NERDS in our store. One was a slut and the other was never around. Ambitions? Sure, if that's what you call ambition. How sad your world must be to have that as something to look up to.

Re: And Keyholder muppets
First of all, you're delusional if you think keyholders were the only muppets. Everyone was a muppet, from the part-time IPT all the way up to Roz Thompson.

Second of all, you're a sad, self-righteous coward. Oh yeah, taking a step forward in one's career by stepping up to the plate and accepting more responsibilities is definitely a bad thing. The stores definitely weren't in need of strong leadership. How about anarchy? Would that be better, idiot? So keyholding wasn't glamorous and paid only a few bucks more per hour than you lowly shitheels...so what? It paid the rent, and it's a great resume' builder to say you have management skills, no matter where you go...plus we got a retention bonuses, unlike you.

Re: And Keyholder muppets
I was the key holder, got paid nothing extra. took on more responsibility, for no extra benefit for myself. I made 7.75 an hour, and often covered as a shift supervisor. so I guess I'm a nerd. I'm a nerd because I thought supervisors and managers, who work harder than anyone else in the store, deserve their breaks in vacations. I asked nothing in return and don't regret it a bit. we were more than a team we were family. and I'm sorry if your work experience wasn't like that.

Everyone is losing their job
So stop being a stupid dickhead. If you have personal reasons to wish the keyholders in your store ill: fine. Do so. But don't paint all keyholders with the same brushstroke.

Thanks for posting facebook list, I did't know about that. What happens the day after close? They pack up pcs? Taken down closing signs?

Do they have to leave the store in any certain condition? My store has sections missing the wall bookcases and I really dont know if they will sell before the end. Will they leave some up some down?

It looks very bad.

We got five days notice...
(Anonymous) on September 10th, 2011 07:41 pm (UTC)
At this stage of things, why are there even questions anymore? Why are you expecting some "brave GM" to come forth? Such little nit-pickings are all irrelevant in the grand scheme of things with this company. It's over. Getting the answers to these questions this late in the game is just silly. Let it go. Punch in, help customers, and leave. There's no hope in expecting resolution to anything.

Closing date depends on that tipping point between sales potential and labor/overhead costs. If there's less stock in the store to cover those costs, then the store will close earlier than other stores.
(Anonymous) on September 11th, 2011 07:41 pm (UTC)
A few of us stores have already closed (a bunch closed yesterday).
